I took part in Katharina Kettner’s MBA course “Soft Skills and Leadership” at the FOM Hochschule für Oekonomie & Management University of Applied Sciences in Cologne in spring 2010. Katharina”s class was very practical, i.e. there was ample space (and time) for exploring skills and developing awareness. She also gave us the opportunity to be coached, in my case in the field of presentation. This enabled me to profit enormously from Katharina”s coaching experience, and to learn to present more freely. Personally, I could also utilize her knowledge of intercultural subjects, because I chose this field for my term paper. Furthermore, in a time when my employer was in the process of merging with another organization, I profited from her profound knowledge in the area of Organizational Change / Behaviour. With its focus of self-awareness and optimizing one’s own behaviour, her class brought new and unusual highlights to the MBA course of study, something I welcomed very much. This subject, and the opportunity of self-reflection, unfortunately only had a small spot in our MBA studies, unfortunately. I would have loved more classes like this. I profited a lot from Katharina’s lectures and her deep, broad, and very practice-oriented knowledge, and would like to work with her again anytime. Even today, in 2014, it was very helpful to contact her. I am writing an article about intercultural communication and was looking for an expert interview partner. Katharina gave me inspiring advices for the article itself. In the interview she also gave practical hints for the readers of the article, which enable them to more success in their negotioations with foreign business partners.
